Edwardian period dress (1901-1910)

Boutonnière and fascinator
For my friends' wedding, I created a complementary boutonnière and fascinator for the pair to wear. This was the first time I have turned feathers into fashion. Surprising; as I think an awful lot about the historical and conservation context of this.

1960 Volkswagen Transporter
Not a costume for a person, but close. I upholstered and curtained the interior of Travis Scales' restored 1960 VW bus. You can see this tin-can beauty on August 13 at the NYC Volkswagen Traffic Jam, a vintage-VW car show we organize on Governors' Island.

Little Green Dresses
This book, developed and written by Austin, Texas-based designer and seamstress Tina Sparkles, is a how-to guide for refashioning existing garments into new pieces. It was published in 2010 by The Taunton Press.

I was the garment and photo stylist for Little Green Dresses. Photographs by Erica Beckman.

I Heart Brooklyn Girls
I Heart Brooklyn Girls is an art activism project that reinvents vintage kitsch such as the pinup calendar and pulp fiction cover art. The project appropriates and improvises scenes using members of Brooklyn's queer community.

I am a co-producer of the project and I style the costumes and sets. Photographs by Erica Beckman.

The Story
"novel vintage"
For several years I owned a vintage clothing business called The Story. I acquired most of my stock at once from a shuttered store in upstate New York. The proprietrix had collected compulsively for many years, and I assumed the bounty. It was a dream wardrobe with pieces that dated from the Civil War era to the 1980's, each with a story of its own to tell. Besides selling pieces at New York City's vintage fashion shows and directly to designers, I styled numerous projects with the the garments. Today, all that's left in my possession is one treasured rack.

Photographs by Lisa Roze and Erica Beckman.

Gamine
Gamine is a short film directed by Sharon Barnes. It is set in an American backyard during the early 1940s. In it, a bored tomboy bilks her household chores, only to find a magical world in the backyard beyond.

I was the costume designer for the film. In particular, I designed and constructed the female acrobat's ensemble.
